The Horse, The Rooster And The Dog

A fairy tale by Viktor Andonov

Once upon a time, there lived three inseparable friends — a horse, a rooster and a dog. The three companions spent their days playing in the meadows and basking in the warm sunlight that bathed the peaceful farm they called home.

One fine day, as the trio lounged lazily beneath the old oak tree at the edge of the farm, a gentle breeze whispered tales of distant lands and unexplored wonders. The wind carried with it the intoxicating scent of adventure, stirring something deep within the hearts of our friends. Inspired by the promise of discovery, they decided it was time to bid farewell to the familiar and set forth on a grand journey to explore the world beyond their cozy farm.

With a twinkle in their eyes and hearts full of excitement, the horse, the rooster, and the dog set off on their grand adventure. The world unfolded before them like a vast tapestry, and the trio eagerly trotted, strutted, and bounded into the unknown.

Their first stop was a dense forest, where they encountered a distressed family of rabbits. The rabbits, caught in a thorny predicament, sought the help of our three heroes. The horse, with her strong and steady hooves, carefully navigated the thicket, while the rooster used his sharp beak to snip away at the entangling vines. The dog, ever watchful, kept an eye on his friends, keeping them away from danger. The grateful rabbits hopped away, leaving behind a chorus of joyful thanks.

As they continued their journey, the trio stumbled upon a meadow where a group of birds were in desperate need of assistance. The strong winds had scattered their precious eggs far and wide. With the rooster's keen eyes and swift wings, they managed to retrieve each egg, returning them to their tearful, relieved parents.

Their next adventure led them to a bustling town, where a young cat had climbed up a tall tree and couldn't find her way down. The horse, with her powerful legs, provided a sturdy base for the dog to perch on. The rooster then clinbed on top of the dog, crowed loudly, catching the attention of the townsfolk. Soon, a kind soul fetched a ladder, and the cat was safely reunited with her grateful owner.

Throughout their travels, the horse, the rooster, and the dog encountered many creatures big and small. They helped a lost lamb find its flock, rescued a turtle stranded in the middle of a busy road, and even assisted a group of ants in carrying their precious cargo across a treacherous hill. With every act of kindness, the trio left a trail of joy and gratitude behind them.

As the days turned into weeks, and the weeks into months, the friends marveled at the diversity of the world around them. Yet, amidst the beauty and wonder, a gentle homesickness crept into their hearts. They missed the familiar sights and sounds of their farm — the rustling leaves, the soft nicker of the horses in the neighboring pastures, and the comforting warmth of the sun setting behind the hills.

One evening, as they rested by a serene riverbank, they realised that, no matter how enchanting the world beyond their farm was, it could never replace the warmth and love they felt within the boundaries of their home. With a shared glance and a collective sigh, the horse, the rooster, and the dog decided it was time to return to the place where their hearts truly belonged.

As they approached the familiar hills that marked the entrance to their village, a wave of joy swept over them. The farm, bathed in the golden glow of the setting sun, welcomed them back with open arms.

The trio reunited with old friends — the cows, the sheep, and the other horses — and shared tales of their adventures under the starlit sky. The farm, once again, echoed with the harmonious blend of neighs, clucks, and barks that had been dearly missed.

And so, the horse, the rooster, and the dog lived happily ever after, surrounded by the familiar sights and sounds of the farm they called home. The world beyond the hills would always hold a special place in their hearts, but the greatest adventure of all was the one they shared within the cozy embrace of their beloved farm.
